Two Weeks Into My Goal

Two weeks ago, I set the goal of creating 10,000 pieces of social media content.

Here are the rules I made for myself:

  • Instagram — Posts or stories
  • Tweets (No QTs)
  • Facebook — Posts or stories
  • LinkedIn — Posts or stories
  • Reddit
  • TikTok — Stitches and duets count
  • Pins
  • Blog posts
  • YouTube Videos

I’ve learned so much and wanted to take some time to list out a few.

It’s Okay to Suck

This is freaking hard.

I have to think every minute of every day how I’m going to flush out all of this content.

It is time consuming and exhausting, but I love it.

Biggest thing I’ve learned is that it’s okay to have some sucky posts. I have posts on LinkedIn that haven’t performed nearly as well as others. Not even half as good.

That’s okay.

I have gotten past the fear of posting at this point. I’m not afraid to throw something out and hope it does well.

That doesn’t mean I’m not thoughtful about what I post or taking time to make it as good as I can.

It means that I’ve accepted that perfection is an illusion.

That really haunted me as someone close to me told me, “Traven, you don’t understand social and if you put that up, people will make fun of you and me.”

That has never happened.

When someone sees a post they don’t like, they will move on. They never reach out to tell you how bad you suck if you’re starting out like I am.

My Affinities

I’m a natural writer.

I love the platforms where I can take time to leave text.

I’m not naturally inclined to make a video of myself or take pictures to put up on my feeds.

That is the greatest indicator of where I’m lacking and how I can improve my skill set.

Now I know what direction to charge in and can tackle bigger projects. That led me to my TikTok journey.

I didn’t know what to do videos on, so I took my passion for guitar, gave myself a 30-day challenge and went full force.

It takes me about ten minutes to get something up and people watch it, comment, and even like the videos.

I have found a wonderful world of encouragement there that leads me to be a better guitar player and make better video content.

That all started with me recognizing that I’m not naturally inclined to make videos and a small way I can do it every day.

People Want You to Succeed

LinkedIn has become my home for the past few weeks.

I have fallen in love with the platform harder than Ryan Gosling fell for Rachel McAdams.

There is a whole ecosystem of people that want to help and serve. The majority of people I have encountered have been fully supportive of my mission and they take time to add value everyday.

I will be forever grateful to the friends I’ve made there.

There are people that don’t give me the time of day or treat me like an annoying younger brother.

That’s alright. I’m the youngest of 4 boys. You’re not going to hurt my feelings.

They are still great people and I will continue to learn from their content.

Where I’m At

I have created 127 social posts in 2 weeks.

I don’t know how many I have created in my lifetime, but this is a lot for me.

I’m stretching, progressing, and finding my voice in a world of noise.

I’ve never felt more fulfilled and so happy to start this journey.
